Early Career Teacher [ECT]

Programme structure

ECTs are provided with a two-year induction program, based on the Initial Teaching Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF). We work with Pathfinder Teaching School Hub using the Ambition Institute programme.

Support and training

ECTs are allocated a dedicated mentor, with weekly meetings in Year 1 and fortnightly meetings in Year 2. ECTs have access to in person training events as well as online training materials covering areas such as behaviour, instruction, curriculum and professional practice.

Mentorship

ECTs will have a fully-trained mentor who will observe them regularly providing feedback and instructional coaching.

Timetable reduction

ECTs are given a timetable reduction of 10% in year one and 5% in year two.

Appropriate Body

ECTs are registered with the Pathfinder Teaching School Hub Appropriate Body. The Appropriate Body oversees the statutory induction period for ECTs by ensuring they receive their entitlements, monitoring the support and assessments they receive. ECTs are assessed termly with a final recommendation made at the end of their induction period.
