Welburn Hall is a North Yorkshire County Council maintained special school with a strong reputation for excellence in working with children and young people who have a wide range of special educational needs.

We offer a dynamic, innovative and highly individualised learning journey for pupils aged 8 to 19 years, with a wide range of physical disabilities or learning difficulties.

Our aim is to ensure all pupils and students have the opportunities they need to reach their full potential for academic achievement, independence and personal development.

This website will help you find out more about Welburn Hall School and the pupils and students who attend. We have dedicated staff, fantastic facilities and beautiful buildings which create a calm and inspiring place to learn, live and work.

  • Welburn Wins Gold
    We have just heard that we have been awarded the School Games Gold Mark. A prestigious award which recognises that we are committed to developing competitive opportunities across the school as well as promoting extra-curricular physical activity.
  • Musical Memories Magic
    On 25 June, a group of our older students took to the stage at Helmsley Arts Centre for a production entitled “Musical Memories” and what a show stopper it was!
  • Promoting British Values
    Pupils are enthusiastically taking part in a design-a-poster competition as part of our ongoing work on British Values. The competition closes on 19 June and we look forward to sharing the entries with you in an on-line gallery.
  • School Governor Opportunity
    We are looking for a new Governor to join our team. This is a great opportunity to introduce new experience and competencies in key areas, ideally IT / Business Management, or Health / Social Care. For more info, go to the Governors Section.
  • Democracy in Action at Welburn Hall
    May 7 was polling day at Welburn Hall School too. We elected our first Head Boy and a Head Girl. This is part of a piece of work around democracy as part of our commitment to promoting British Values.
  • Just Released ... Welburn Music Video
    We were approached earlier this year by NYMAZ - a North Yorkshire musical organisation to make this video (play above) of the musical activities at Welburn Hall to use as an advocacy video to encourage other special schools in their music making.

  • Garden Party approaching - 4 July ...
    It's a sure sign of summer when we put out this annual plea for help and support with our much anticipated garden party. So if you can help with an hour or two of your time, bake a few cakes, donate gifts and prizes, then please get in touch.
  • Exciting Drama Developments
    We are just in the process of organising a very exciting partnership with the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough which will involve actors coming into school to deliver workshops and activities with our pupils over the next school year.
  • Rock Challenge 2015
    A fantastic success - 27 students performed at the North Yorkshire Rock Challenge 2015 event at the Barbican in York on 18 March.
  • The Long Good-Bye
    Mrs Smith announces her decision to retire in December 2015.
  • Networking with Our Mainstream Colleagues
    Welburn Hall School values collaboration with all our community partners. We are committed to working with our colleagues in local mainstream schools and think a positive working arrangement will improve educational opportunities for all.
